or its grindy and in time u get stronger. so either u need to take all grinding out and no lvl caps and no gear upgrades and make ita hard core straight skill turn based game. by virtue of upgrading u make the situation more and more a joke or easy as time progresses.

and the whole bad situation thing is also moot with an upgradeable town. hell they even say F off if u try to take them when they are too high or too stressed. these "heros" know roughly what they are getting into. honestly that to me sounds like someone who complains they joined the military and a war was going on. u go out and u find a bad situation or such. "The what estate?" would, I imagine, be overwhelmingly the most common response. I doubt the world at large would give a single toss if someone came out of the Darkest Estate with the news that the evil's been stopped. Obviously we know nothing about the broader DD world even if such lore existed, but surely there's easier ways to earn glory than fighting giant rats and spiders in some obscure and forgotten centuries-old sewer.

I thought the heroes were all ♥♥♥♥-ups who are hiring themselves out to the player character out of desperation, search for wealth, search for redemption, etc., and not because they're necessarily seeking glory. There is no glory unless the risk of death is involved. The general reasoning is that the characters are there for glory and THEN gold. I use to think having one higher level be allowed into the dungeon below with a team of 3 level appropriate heroes but this would make it too easy.
